Question - I don't know how many tiles I require?
This is something we can easily work out for you. Under our 'SHOP' link we have a tile calculator which will work out exactly how many boxes you will need by you providing the measurements of the area you wish to cover. Alternatively, you can contact one of the team by following the 'Contact Us' link and we will work out your requirements.
Question - How hard is it to install the tiles?
Installing Click-Deck tiles couldn't be easier. The plastic base uses a male/female interlocking system which click together. The installation is done with nothing more than your hands. It is similar to making a jigsaw but all our pieces connect together with each other.
Question - What colour are the tiles?
The tiles have been stained to a medium brown hardwood colour. They are the same colour as seen in our photos under the gallery section.
Question - When the tiles are laid will they move about?
The supportive plastic base the hardwood slats are attached to have male/female connectors which lock together to adjacent tiles so therefore, they will not move once laid. No part of the tiles are actually connected to the floor.
Question - Can you only install the tiles over concrete?
Whilst covering drab concrete surfaces is an ideal use for the tiles, they can equally well be laid over ceramic tiles, paving slabs by any fixing but hold themselves under their own weight.
Question - What effect will snow and ice have on the tiles?
The Acacia hardwood is unaffected by snow or frost however, in cold and wet conditions after a period of time exposed to the UK's weather elements can affect the hardwoods quality re-applying a hardwood decking oil to the tiles every few years.
Question - Are the tiles affected by exposure to a lot of rain water?
As Click-Deck hardwood tiles have small gaps between the slats of the wood and the slats are raised off the ground by their mesh base, any water drains away in a short space of time. The tiles are also oiled which acts as a protective layer so they will not be affected by rain.
Question - Can the hardwood slats become loose after people have walked on the decking?
No as each hardwood slat is screwed into the plastic base it sits on. This gives the overall decking strength when put together.
Question - Will the tiles ever need cleaning?
The tiles should be cleaned on regular basis light debris or dirt that may collect between the wood slats and can be removed with a stiff broom, leaf blower, vacuum cleaner, or you can use garden hose or pressure washer.
Question - How to keep the tiles in a good condition?
The sun and the weather in general will also affect the tiles as with any timber surfaces will fade and eventually silver if not treated with preservative oil at regular intervals. Although the tiles are pre-finished with a preservative soy oil containing UV absorbing properties however this will not provide a permanent protection against fading or silvering of the timber. For ongoing protection we recommend "Ronseal", "Cuprinol"or “Timberguard” preservative oil with a UV filter or a similar deck restorer which can give up to 3 years protection from an initial application.
Question - Can I take up the tiles once they are laid for the first time?
Yes. Click-Deck tiles are just as easy to take up and they are to lay down. We recommend that this is done for the winter months to preserve their quality.
Question - Does the price quoted include delivery?
Yes. All prices quoted include FREE delivery to mainland UK, except Scottish Islands, Northern Ireland, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man . If you are not mainland UK, please send us a quick message via email and we can advise what the charge would be.
Question - Where can the deck tiles be laid?
Click-Deck tiles can be used on any solid, reasonably even surface e.g. patios, balconies, porches, courtyards, roof top terraces, around or under hot tubs, gazebos, conservatories. For pre felted roofs, we recommend a bitumen lining to be put down first .
Question - Can the tiles be laid straight onto grass or earth?
We would advise not to lay the tiles directly onto grass or earth directly. This is due to possible growth of weeds between the tiles and significant rainfall can dampen soil and the tiles can sink over time. We recommend that you lay a weed control matt over the area which will eliminate these two issues.
Question - Can the tiles be laid directly on rooftops covered with a rubber or bituminous membrane without damaging or puncturing the membrane?
The pressure on the tile base is normally distributed in such a way that no damage will occur but in the case of people wanting to lay Click-Deck tiles on roof extensions and flat roofs eg. Garages, roofs where the roof bitumen/ felt is thinner than normal we recommend the use of a protective underlay. We currently specify a recycled rubber product, that is simply rolled out and cut in with a knife. The matting needs to be porous so water flows off following the existing fall of the roof.
The matting also offers excellent sound proofing qualities as well as adding a pleasant cushioned feel of the decking. The matting is available in several thickneses. Please contact us for details.
Question - What happens if the tiles are not a perfect fit for my area?
As each tile is 30cm x 30cm, we understand that the your area is not always a perfect fit. The tiles can easily be cut through with either a handsaw or jigsaw. Alternatively we sell edging strips which click onto the edges of the tiles the same way the tiles are connected together.
Question - How do I hide the plastic tabs on the outside edge of the tile?
Here at Click-Deck, we also sell edging strips (reducer pieces) and corner strips (corner reducer pieces) which click into place on the edge of each tile. Alternatively, you can simply cut the plastic tabs off with a junior hacksaw. Another popular method is to lay gravel around the tiles.
Question - What is the best ground to lay the tiles onto?
We always advise that the firmer the ground the better results. The ground itself has to be a reasonably firm and level area. Most Click-Deck purchases are laid onto concrete slabs and onto old decking.
Question - Do you come to fix the tiles for me?
No. The beauty of Click-Deck hardwood tiles is that literally anyone can lay them in a short space of time with no tools required. The tiles use a male/female simple interlocking system so as soon as the tiles arrive, you are ready to lay them with nothing more than your hands.
Question - Is there anything else I need to do once the tiles have been laid?
No. As soon as the tiles are laid you are ready to use the decking!
